The Life of DELLA DARLENE RASMUSSEN

Darlene Rasmussen, age 88, passed away at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on October 11, 2021, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Darlene was born March 1, 1933, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Lillian Thompson.

Darlene attended Hamilton County grade school and graduated from Webster City High School in 1951. Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company where she met Daniel Rasmussen. The two were married in Webster City in 1952, and to this union two sons were born, Michael and Jeffrey.

Following the birth of her children, Darlene dedicated her time and talents to her home and raising her family. In 1974, she began working for Sears Department Store where she worked for 22 years, retiring in 1996.

Darlene and Dan had a love for motorcycles and enjoyed many rides across country together on their big Honda. She was a member of the Rolling Relics and Goodguys. Other hobbies of hers included cooking and baking, tending to her flower garden, and watching football and golf, especially on Sundays when Tiger was wearing red!

Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; son, Mike (Karen) Rasmussen; grandchildren, Amber (Will) Stemler, Aaron (Jessica) Rasmussen, Daniel “Danny” (Becca) Rasmussen, and Dani Rasmussen; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Maxine Brownfield; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Lillian; son, Jeff; brother, Cecil, and sisters, May and Jean.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with a luncheon following until 12 p.m. A graveside service will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
