The Life of Joan Diane Summy

Joan  (nee Guenther) Summy, 82, longtime resident of Broomall, died peacefully on October 5, 2021. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Madelyn (Weber) Guenther. Joan enjoyed hosting card parties and game nights; her family fondly remembers tennis and bowling outings. Talented with a needle, she enjoyed all forms of handwork. Whether knitting, sewing, embroidery, needlework, or crocheting, family and friends looked forward to receiving her creations. Joan enjoyed caring for her plants, tending her flowerbeds, creating beautiful flower arrangements, and keeping in touch with her sorority sisters for over 70 years. She was known for her ability to always find the perfect gift or card. Joan will best be remembered as a woman devoted to family, the quiet pride she felt for her grandchildren, the summers in Ocean City, or just time spent with one another.  Beloved wife of Warren Summy, who died in 2013, Survivors include her daughters, Diane Granger (David), Lorraine Shickora (Vincent), and Joanne Schmidt (Timothy);  6 grandchildren; Vincent W., Ryan, Anthony, Zach, Faith, and Jamie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the American Heart Association or to your charity of choice.

Interment: Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA will be private. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon on Saturday, November 27 at 12 noon held at her daughter's home.
