The Life of Eleanor Ann Smith

Eleanor Ann (nee Tyler) Smith, 62, of Drexel Hill, died October 4, 2021 at Lankenau Hospital. Raised in Yeadon and a member of the class of '77 Yeadon High School, Ellie has lived in Drexel Hill for almost 35 years. She was the Director of Telecommunications for Delaware County and retired recently after 39 years at the Courthouse. In that time, she helped develop and implement the changing technology from basic telephone systems up through emergency communications. She served as a liaison between Delaware County and other government agencies as well as vendors. Ellie was an elected Upper Darby Republican Committee member. As a talented crafter, she took part in local exhibits and craft fairs. Most important was the time spent with family. Her love of cooking ensured that there was always something good to eat. Summers in Cape May created many happy memories and she was especially looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Robert Smith; her daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law Daniel Cassidy; and her niece, Kelly O'Donnell.

Masks are required for her Visitation: 4-6pm Sun. and 9-10am Mon. at the Toppitzer Funeral Home in Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill 19026. Service will be 10am Monday, followed by burial in Arlington Cem.
