My 6th grade teacher

Mrs. Wert was by far one of my favorite teachers. She was so warm and loving. My husband and sons have heard me talk about her many times. I will never forget my last day of 6th grade as I was leaving, she gave me a hug and told me she loved me. Her students were an extension of her family. To her family~ I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in friends and family that surround you. Sincerely, Suzanne (Adam) LaMastra

Writing Back and Forth

Gramma and I really liked writing cards/letters back and forth over the past few years. I uploaded an image of one of my favorites here (hopefully it works and you can see/read it). (She always thought it was funny how I dropped the "nd" sound when I said Grandma.) Here is an excerpt typed out from another card from Janice: "Hi - I've finished my daily crossword and now look forward to my two favorite TV shows tonight (Jeopardy + Antiques Roadshow). Jeopardy is good to reveal what we don't know. The Roadshow is good for reminding me of dolls, games, or relics from my past. I hope I am your favorite antique!?! We sure had special times together. Looking forward to Dec. + Xmas. Love, Grandma" I also want to thank Tara and Rodney so so much for taking such good care of her and being there for her during the years she lived at Beltzville after Pappy had passed away.

My 1st Grade Teacher

Mrs. Wert was my 1st grade teacher (1968-1969) at Kutztown Elementary. I do not recall much from those days, but the recent loss of my mother brought me to a binder of letters my grandfather saved in 1969. The binder contained correspondence between me, my mother, my grandma, and other relatives. My grandfather was working as a civilian in Saigon, during the Vietnam War, and he would send me trinkets and post cards. As I was reading the letters from my mom to my grandfather, she referenced Mrs. Wert in nearly every letter. Mrs. Wert encouraged me to bring in everything I received from Grandpa to share with the class, even if it wasn't "Show and Share" day. Mom recounted telephone conversations with Mrs. Wert and how fascinated Mrs.Wert was with what my grandpa was doing in Saigon. As I read the letters and recalled the memories via Mom's letters, I have realized that Mrs. Wert played an integral part of my life. I knew that I needed to find her and thank her. Sadly, I dscovered that she had passed away. My condolences for your loss. My mother died at the age of 86 on 1/23/22.....the loss of your mother is difficult, to say the least. Just know that your mom was special and the lives she touched are evident of that.
