The Life of Lois Darlene Gillihan

Lois Darlene Gillihan passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family the evening of August 9, 2021 in Olathe Kansas (86).

She was preceded in death by loving husband Harry Marcy Gillihan Jr., daughter Marcy Rene Barnett, her loving parents John P & Dorothy Melton and siblings.

Born June 3, 1935, in Olathe, Kansas, Darlene Melton was the eldest of five siblings, a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. She was a Baton Twirler on her High School Majorette Dance Team, often performing on the Old Settlers parade where she met her future husband, Harry Gillihan. Darlene later moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she performed as a dancer in a theater group. She worked briefly at the Fairbanks Daily News in the printing department and was recognized as Miss Fairbanks Alaska. Darlene would later assist her husband in opening Harry's Fuller O'Brien Paint, flooring, and carpet store. She was an active member of the local 4H program for many years and had a deep appreciation for animals. Many loved Darlene and her unyielding strength and ability to show empathy, love, and laughter to all those that we're lucky to meet her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Nanette Gillihan Wicke, Nicole Gillihan, granddaughters Courtney Meredith, Brittney Hardiman, Shelby Rockers, Grandsons Benjamin Wicke, Colby Rockers, Colin Theis and Great Grandchildren Lilly Hardiman, Averi Hardiman, Bostyn Vernon, Alaya Vernon, Connor Meredith and Tatum Renee Rockers, and; extended family and many friends.

She has finally earned her wings. We will love you always. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held in her honor with details soon to follow. The family has asked that donations be made to the family to help cover her service.
