The Life of Claire Juliette Burke

CLAIRE JULIETTE GESZTY   GARDINER BURKE "Susie"  
Born on August 9, 1941 in Boston, MA, Susie was the daughter of John Pennington Gardiner, a Foreign Service officer, and Julianna Geszty. Susie spent much of her first 10 years overseas, in Seoul, Korea, and in Tokyo. Returning to the United States, the family lived in Washington, DC and Boston. Susie graduated from the Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA. In Washington, she worked at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and for 25 years, she served as a volunteer nurse in the emergency room of Sibley Memorial Hospital. She married Nicholas R. Burke in November, 1974. Susie was a dedicated homemaker and mother and a gracious hostess who enjoyed making others feel at ease. Susie died peacefully at her home in Washington on April 2, 2021, following a protracted battle with kidney failure. She is survived by her son, James Revere Burke, her daughter-in-law, Stephanie S. Burke, and two grandchildren, Owen Gabriel, and Sophie Madeleine Burke. Interment will be private.
