The Life of William T. Grumbine Jr.

William T. "Bill" Grumbine, Jr., 62, of Weisenberg Township, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Lisa J. (Roushey) Grumbine, whom he married on January 14, 1984.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill was a son of the late William T., Sr., and Mary Luvern (Allman) Grumbine. Bill was a 1976 graduate of Pocono Mountain High School and a 1982 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor's degree in psychology. He then attended Biblical Theological Seminary, where in 1988 he received a master's degree in biblical studies.

Bill was a talented and accomplished woodworker. He operated his own wood turning business, Wonderful Wood, for many years out of his home. He was a skilled craftsman who created custom wood turnings for his clients. Bill gave wood turning demonstrations and taught wood turning to many people across the country. His instructional videos were sold worldwide.

Bill was a teacher at heart. In addition to his woodworking instruction, he taught the Bible through lay preaching and Bible studies, homeschooled his children and was a certified gun safety instructor.

In addition to his wife Lisa, Bill is survived by his three daughters, Greta L., wife of Shawn Charlton, Ponce de Leon, FL, Sarah M., wife of Anthony Bowen, New Wilmington, PA, and Emily Theimer, Manheim, PA; seven grandchildren, Adelaide, Sadie, Charleigh, Thomas, Elias, Ezekiel and Jonah; and a brother, John Grumbine and his wife, Rowena, and daughter, Ruthie, of Pocono Pines, PA.

Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son-in-law, Joel Curtis Theimer, who passed away on April 5, 2021.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Bill's life will be held on August 28, 2021 at Grace Bible Fellowship Church on 1811 Old Bethlehem Pike, Quakertown, PA with Pastor Ron Kohl officiating. Jerimiah was a bullfrog

Not exactly sure of the date this happened but I think it was around 25-26 years ago.  Bill was up front doing a mini less for the kids of our church.  He was talking about the profits in the Bible and asked if anyone knew who Jerimiah was.  Our youngest raised his hand and very loudly began to sing "Jerimiah was a bullfrog, da dan da, was a good friend of mine..."  To which Bill responded with a grin on his face, "I will need to talk to your parents after church, Jon."

Trip of a lifetime

Bill, along with Alan and I went to visit the Charles Spurgeon library and the Chord, Auburn and Doosenberg museum. I remember on this trip that we went to get a nice juicy steak after visiting the library. We called Lisa to research a good place to eat. After much debate we arrived at our destination. Unfortunately for us, this location (which had a sister location) had lost most of its stock due to a refrigeration failure. We kept ordering only to find out the item was out of stock. Bill, having had enough of this, asked what DID they have in stock in his deep, authoritative voice. The manager came over and gave us deal after some prompting from Bill. We paid for the cut he had in stock but with a free sizeable upgrade. During our meal, I felt like some wine and Bill agreed. So, after some more negotiations, Bill got our bottle of wine comped. It was an excellent meal with even better company. Bill always knew how to make it a memorable yet cherished occasion.

Never got a chance

I remember...I had posted about a strange vehicle having appeared outside my house. Bills first comment on my post (on the watch site in The town) said do you own a gun? Know how to use it? And all that. I said he wasn't on my property or a threat but I did and know how. And he exclaimed how proud he was that I was aware. He and I then started messaging. Making plans for my birthday to come shoot. Well things just kept getting in the way of that and that never happened. But he did listen to me non stop for 1 hour tell my life sorry and how shitty I've had it. But he just would assure me I'm strong and have a great kid and I'll be ok. And God will take care of my beloved family and I. I will forever miss Bill. Much love and can't wait to meet you someday!!

Better days at Five Barns

Paying my respects for a man who opened his home to a great many WoodCentral strangers so we could become friends.  Those were great days, and couldn't have been possible without your vision.

Godspeed.

Movie buddy

Bill has been like a father to me in the time I have known him. I truly enjoyed our lunches, shooting range visits, and, especially, our movie watching times together. I loved watching 'Blazing Saddles' and 'John Wick' in particular. With Bill I could be myself and I found him to be not only fun and carefree but also a source of deep wisdom and insight. He will always hold a dear place in my heart and I look forward to seeing him in Heaven one day.

Like a father to us both

I met Bill in 2011 during a chance encounter at a local gun shop, a place I visited on a whim after work one day. We spoke for a few minutes, then set up a time to go shooting with our respective wives (Lisa and Camille) in tow. Before Camille and I knew it, we were attending the church Bill and Lisa were going to at the time and hanging out fairly frequently, to shoot and to help each other out (Bill did most of the helping) and to share stories (Bill did most of the storytelling) and laugh (We all had an equal amount of that). Even after they moved on to different churches, we stayed in touch and remained close friends throughout the years. Whether we needed advice or assistance or we just wanted to hang out for awhile, his door was always open. And he knew the same was true with us.

Camille had a chance to grow closer with Bill when he lost weight and got into bike riding as a form of fitness training. He and Lisa and Camille became biking buddies and continued that tradition over the last few years, something I was very happy to see. He even went so far as to buy Camille a new bike and gear after realizing she desperately needed a new one but was unwilling to purchase one herself (or let me buy one for her). Bill and I cooked up a surprise scheme together, and got her the exact bike she wanted. Bill's generosity knew no bounds with those he considered dear friends, whether it was with skill or advice or gifts.

We are so saddened at his death, but so encouraged by his life and by the Paradise he is currently experiencing. We will see him again, and that assurance is what will carry us through this. Bill served (and continues to serve in Heaven) a merciful, loving God, and we are so glad that God allowed us to have a friend, a brother, and a father figure in Bill. We only wish we could have spent more time with him here on Earth, but Eternity will more than make up for that.

Attached is a picture of Bill and his first time meeting our daughter Henrietta. He said he was looking forward to spoiling her just as he did his own grandchildren. Were were looking forward to that as well. Until it's our time to cross over, we'll regale Henrietta with stories of her adopted Grandpa Bill, for which there are many.

Until Heaven, Bill. Can't wait to hear "I have a story about that" again.

Blessings

Blessings to Bill's Family at this most difficult time.  I met Bill thru the world of wood turning.  I watched and learned as he demonstrated his skills on the lathe as well as his philosophy of turning.  He will be missed by many folks of many different talents.

Like an adopted BIG baby brother

Bill and I "met' on FaceBook several years ago. I was immediately impressed with his ease of expressing his points of view, his knowledge of the Christian Bible, his willingness to share his knowledge and wisdom. Over the years I have treasured our conversations. We have spoken on the phone a few times, and I loved his marvelous, impressive voice.

Bill's love of a good story has lightened my mood through some losses I have experienced. He was helpful with some decisions that I have made, and I have enjoyed him immensely.

Bill was 11 months younger than my baby sister whom I lost on May 24th, 2021. So while I know both of them are in Heaven with the Lord   G-d Almighty, I am still grieving for the massive holes left in my heart by the loss of my sister Jill, and my "adopted" baby brother Bill.

May his memory be for blessings. Love you, Jordan F.

5 Barns - A Man out Standing in his Dield!

I first met Bill on our common woodworking forum Wood Central. Bill used to host an annual "5 Barns Picnic" at his house for the local forum members that me and my family attended several times. It was always a worderful time. I then became a student and took several wood turning classes with Bill. While attending classes I was welcomed into his home and was invited to his family dinner table. What a woderful family! I have the fondest memories of Bill and am saddened by his passing. Rest in peace my dear friend.

PAFOA accomplice

I first met Bill at a PAFOA meet & greet over 15 years ago.  Over the years we became friends and have stayed that way since my moving west 10 years ago.  I will miss his stories and his wit.  My prayers for family and all that mourn Mr Bill's passing.  I wish I could attend the memorial, my own health issues prevent that at this time.

School and fun- the mid-70's

I am shocked and saddened to read of Bill's passing. He would come to mind every so often over the years, but today I thought I'd actually follow up on those thoughts and found this article. I went to HS with Bill, wrestled on the same team at PMHS over the years, and generally had lots of fun outside of school. Bill was talented on the wrestling mat, was in the honors classes in school, and we spent every lunch hour together with others friends, including Keith Schrak, Warren Seese, Mark Matthews and Bob Nash. But the first time I encountered Bill was well before HS when my Little League team visited Tobyhanna to play Bill's team. As the visiting team, we were first up to bat. Bill's team trotted out onto the field and Bill lumbered out to left field (I don't think it would be fair to say Bill was among the speediest of runners!). Upon seeing this huge kid out on the field, my coach immediately approached the umpire. He was clearly asking how old Bill was. How embarrassing, I thought! But this kind of challenge was apparently not unknown to Bill's coach. The umpire went over to Bill's coach, who immediately produced Bill's birth certificate! Play proceeded and Tobyhanna crushed us! One other remembrance I have is whe the HS lunch crew would get together on various weekends to launch model rockets. I believe it was with Bill's goading if not his simple excitement that I stuffed extra engines into one of my prize models to get a super launch. As we backed away from the launch pad to fire the rocket, we all looked at each other with high expectations of something really special. We launched, and the rocket spent about 5 milliseconds in vertical flight before the heavy and unbalanced engines turned the rocket, which of course shot right at us. I still laugh to this day remembering how we all scattered as the rocket zoomed past us and disappeared into the trees surrounding the field we were launching from. We never recovered that model! Over the years we sadly lost touch, although there were a couple times when I returned from AZ where I was attending college when a few of us got together to remember times like these, have a social beer and some food. I'm so sad to know we won't have those times again in our old age. I know Bill left a major mark on my life. I wish his family peace and hopefully my remembrances of the young Bill might bring a smile to your faces. In sadness but with love,

Doug Vetter
