The Life of Mrs. Frieda Merkel

Frieda (Hoanzl) Merkel, 95, formerly of Longswamp Township, died peacefully, Sunday, July 18, 2021, in Kutztown Manor, Kutztown.  She was the widow of William A. Merkel, who died January 20, 2012.  Born in Allentown, Frieda was a daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Flamish) Hoanzl.  She was a member of Huff's Union Church, Alburtis.

Mrs. Merkel owned and operated Frieda's Beauty Salon for over 40 years and then continued to work part time into her retirement.  

Frieda enjoyed working outdoors tending to her gardens, flowers and two acres of property. She also enjoyed music, especially playing her keyboard.

Frieda is survived by two sons:  Michael W., husband of Cheryl L. (Landis) Merkel, Franklin, TN; and Jeffrey L., husband of Susan M. (Miller) Merkel, Alburtis.  Other survivors include, three grandchildren: Heidi T. (Merkel), wife of Charlie R. Collins; Zachary M., husband of Celisa C. (Capley) Merkel; and Molly G. (Merkel), wife of Philip M. Langan; and three great grandchildren: Calli Rose Collins; Charlie M. Collins; and Carrie-Ann Merkel.  In addition to her parents and husband, William, Frieda was predeceased by her siblings: Margaret (Hoanzl) Moll, Teresa (Hoanzl) Koch, Frank Hoanzl, Joseph Hoanzl, and John Hoanzl.

A funeral service to celebrate Frieda's life will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in Huff's Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis, with The Reverend Dr. Jennifer M. Bannerman, officiating. Interment in Huff's Church Union Cemetery.  There are no public viewing or calling hours.
