The Life of Anne Powell

PORTLAND – Anne Millett Powell, 87, died March 2, 2021, after a long struggle with lung disease. Her family wishes to thank Birchwoods at Canco Assisted Living and Northern Light Home Care and Hospice, particularly Laurie Fougere, for the fabulous job they did of taking care of her.

Anne was born in New York City and graduated from the Spence School and Smith College. She was a loyal alumna of both schools and never missed a Smith reunion.

She raised her family in New York and summered in Bridgton for more than 20 years. Later she and her former husband, Larson, moved full-time to Falmouth and then Gorham. She worked at Maine Audubon, the Jones Museum of Glass and Ceramics, and the Woman’s Literary Union. She also served as a board member and volunteer docent at the Victoria Mansion. Her love of music led her to volunteer for the LARK Society for Chamber Music and the Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival (SLLMF). She was a parishioner and former vestry member of Trinity Church in Portland.

She is survived by her sons, Larson Jr. (Brenda Bethman) of Kansas City, Mo., Miles (Rose Le) of Oakton, Va., and her daughter, Anne (Jeffrey Smith) of Merrimac, Mass.

Due to the pandemic, burial services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland. To view Anne’s obituary page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com
