The Life of GEORGE FISHER

George Fisher, 85, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on April 5, 2021. He was born in West Des Moines, Iowa, on April 25, 1935, to Thomas and Rose Fisher.

George retired from Monarch Cement Company after 37 years of service. He quickly learned that retirement was not for him and went to work for the Iowa DOT.

George was a strong man and devoted husband who loved his family beyond measure. He and his wife had a home at Lake Panorama where they lived for 26 years and also where they helped to raise their granddaughter, CrystalRose. George loved grilling, watching boxing, gambling, and he was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears.

George is survived by his children, Cindy (Bill) Stringer, Matt (Kim) Fisher, and Shelley (Charles Walker) Fisher; grandchildren: Matthew II, Brandon, Jason, CrystalRose (Joseph), Tyler, and Taylor; step-grandchildren, Danielle and Matthew; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Lucas; brother, David Fisher; Dalton and many nieces and nephews; as well as other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by wife, Cynthia; his parents, Thomas and Rose; 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-8 p.m., also at the funeral home. The family requests masks be worn and social distancing is encouraged.
