The Life of Mr. Carl H. Hertzog

Carl H. Hertzog, 91, of Topton, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 in The Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the longtime companion of Loretta M. (Brintzenhoff) Weiser.

Born in Lyon Station, Carl was a son of the late Herbert E. and Elda M. (Guinther) Hertzog and served in The United States Army. Carl was a “Jack of all trades.” He began his working career at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, and later owner and operated several service stations throughout the years in Lyons, Topton, Emmaus and New Smithville. He also worked as a car salesman, roofer, plumber and hauler. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed whistling and lollipops and was  a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan!

In addition to his companion of 45 years, Loretta, Carl is survived by his five children, David C. Hertzog, and his wife, Joanne, Mohnton, Lynn A. Hertzog, and his wife, Lori, Fleetwood, Karen D. (Hertzog) Yenser, and her husband, Scott, Topton, Glenn A. Hertzog, and his wife, Darlene, Fleetwood, and Kris (Hertzog) Grow, Mertztown; Loretta’s four children, Shelly M. (Weiser) Burgert, Emmaus, Ivy M. (Weiser) Solt, and her husband, Kerry, Alburtis, Gary L. Weiser, and his wife, Robin, Whitefield, NH, and Barbie A. (Weiser) Brensinger, Mertztown; eight grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. 

He is also survived by a sister, Shirley L. (Hertzog) King, Hamburg; and brother Noel P. Hertzog, Kutztown.

In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by Loretta's daughter, Jan L. Weiser and his brothers, Donald Hertzog, Leon Hertzog, Warren Hertzog, Wayne Hertzog, Richard Hertzog and Dennis Hertzog.

A funeral service to celebrate Carl’s life and burial in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood, PA will be held privately by his immediate family.
