The Life of MICHAEL G. HOYER

An 18-year-old Reading marine was killed Tuesday while on patrol duty in the Da Jang
Republic of South Viet Nam.
The victim was Pfc. Michael G. Hoyer, son of Gerard an d Ma r g a r e t (Shaeffer ) Hoyer, of 1032
Windsor St. He had enlisted i n the U.S. Marine Corps last August. 
Born in Reading, he was graduated from Central Catholic  High School in June, 1964.
The deceased was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Jn addit ion to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Patrick, and two sisters: Judith and Mary, all at
home.
Also his maternal grandparents: Mr . and Mrs. Spencer Schaeffer, Reading.
The W h e I a n & M o u n t z Funeral Home will arrange  services after the body is returned
to Reading.

Pfc. Michael Hoyer

Pfc. Michael Hoyer was killed in combat in South Vietnam in 1965 while on patrol. According to a Reading Eagle article in 1968, PFC. Hoyer was the first Berks County casualty of the Vietnam War. Pfc.
