The Life of Martin G. Rau

Martin G. Rau, 81, of Beacon Falls, passed away on Monday June 1, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of 61 years of Harriet R. Robins Rau. Mr. Rau was born in Beacon Falls, on June 30, 1927, a son of the late George M. and Alice Classey Rau. He was a lifelong Beacon Falls resident and retired after 29 years from U.S. Rubber - B.F. Goodridge. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was constable for Beacon Falls for over 30 years and a member of Beacon Hose Co. #1. He worked at Bulls Eye Gun Shop in Waterbury and was an avid skeet shooter. He was a member of the CT Skeet Shooting Association, the CT State Chief Referee for Skeetin Shooting for 12 years, and the New England Chief Referee for Skeet Shooting. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church. Besides his wife Harriet, he leaves four sons, George M. Rau of Deltona, Fla., Robin M. Rau of Beacon Falls, Henry O. Rau of Naugatuck and Paul E. Rau of Middletown; two sisters, Lucille Kogut of Seymour and Margaret N. Smith of Beacon Falls; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, Naugatuck is entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery Ansonia
