The Life of David E. Ostrom

David E. Ostrom, 92, of Wallingford, departed this life on Monday June 25, 2007 at the Masonic Healthcare Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois (Siglinger) Ostrom. David was born October 7, 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Carl E. and Ida Swanson Ostrom. Mr. Ostrom grew up in Bethany and Ansonia and attended public schools there. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven and the New Jersey Institute of Technology and was a registered professional engineer. He held the position of project management specialist with S.N.E.T. prior to his retirement in 1979 after 33 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force on Guam as a staff sergeant with the 501st bomb group during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a resident of Wallingford since 1985. Mr. Ostrom was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford and was active with the State Baptist Organization including the American Baptist Churches of CT and served as past president, Morris F. Tyler Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Diana-Birger Jarl Lodge 3, Order of Vasa, Corinthian Lodge 103 AF&AM of North Haven, Meridian Chapter 8, Order of Eastern Star; Pyramid Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.; and the New Haven Shrine Club. Long active in community and Baptist church work, he was past president of the Nutmeg Club, Toastmasters International, the American Baptist Churches of CT, the CT section of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Ashlar Village Association. He had been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, CT for 18 years and the Board of Managers of the American Baptist Churches of CT Baptist Homes in Meriden and on the Board of Directors for the University of New Haven Alumni Association. Mr. Olson was long active in various sports, he played semi-professional football in the 30's and early 40's with the Seymour Alumni, All Derby, Ansonia Alumni and Connecticut Yankees of New Haven. He is survived by two sisters Ingrid Hultin Wakeling of Quincy, MA and Vivian Greene Benham of Southbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother George F. Ostrom and a sister Ruth Barber Draugelis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 28, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Wallingford. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery Ansonia. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home in Wallingford is entrusted with the arrangements.
