The Life of Mr. Richard D. Sutton

Richard D. Sutton, 78 of Trumbull, passed on December 27, 2020 at Bridgeport Hospital from a short illness. Richie was born on July 29, 1942 in Philadelphia to the late Richard L. and Irene Dion Sutton. 

He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Lanute) Sutton, sister Mary Sauro of Peoria, AZ, brother David Sutton of Huntington, sister-in-law Betty Corso (Phil) of Fairfield, nieces Lisa Kang (Emil) of Chapel Hill, NC and Janina Johnson of North Bend, WA, nephew Ben Sutton (Lauren) of Hingham, MA, niece Holly Pinkham (Zac) of the UK, niece Christina Corso of New York, NY, nephew Chris Corso (Angela) of Phoenix, AZ and nephew Philip Corso Jr. (Vickie) of Blacklick, OH as well as his beloved rescue dachshund, Oscar.

Richie lived in the area since 1954 and was part of the first graduating class from Bunnell High School in Stratford in 1961. He attended the University of Bridgeport and graduated from the University of New Haven with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. From 1964 to 1970, Richie served in the 158th Transportation Company Army Reserve in Bridgeport.

Richie had a long career in engineering and equipment sales and was employed by companies including Sikorsky in Bridgeport, Avco in Stratford, U.S. Motors in Milford and retired from Littleford Day in Florence, KY in 2006.

He married Lucy in 1973 and they lived in Trumbull, for 47 years and were the proud owners of dachshunds including Oliver, Winston, Maggie and Chloe. Lucy and Richie were tennis enthusiasts who enjoyed traveling to various resorts in Florida and the Carolinas to play. For years Richie would be on the tennis court on the weekends with his dedicated group. The Suttons also have many fond memories of traveling to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. with the Corsos in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Being a regular at the old Mario’s Place in Westport, the patrons and staff will remember Richie for his “larger than life” personality and regular order of filet mignon.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Westport. Interment will be private in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
