The Life of Grace Crossland Spurr

Grace Andrews Crossland Spurr, 83, a former Ansonia resident, died June 5, 2009 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Mrs. Spurr was born June 23, 1925 in Ansonia, the second daughter of Minnie Matilda Bukofske and Alfred Clifton Crossland. After graduating from Ansonia High School in 1942, she attended Lasell Jr. College in Auburndale, MA where she received an Assoc. B.S.degree in medical secretarial science, graduating in the top ten of her class in 1944. She went on to continue her education at New Haven College and New York University. Mrs. Spurr worked for more than 30 years in her chosen field of personnel adminstration and executive secretarial development. in the late 1940's she was executive secretary to the medical director of the Mass. Hospital service in Boston. She married William "Bill" F. Spurr in 1951. Theirs was the first wedding at the newly constructed First United Methodist Church on Franklin Street in Ansonia. Survivors include her sister Elizabeth Matricaria of Farmington; nieces, Elizabeth Hutchinson of Bridgton, ME, Aalia Kusmis of Sanborton, NH, Sharon Kelly of Avon, and Carol Rush of California; a nephew Jack Spurr of Scituate, ME; brother-in-law Gus Spurr of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law Rhoda Greenlaw of Naples, FL and several grand nieces and nephews. Jenkins-King Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery
