The Life of Mary Fainer

Mary Virginia Fainer, 80, of Beacon Falls, died on Tuesday December 8, 2009 at Griffin Hospital in Derby. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Petro Fainer of Ansonia. Mary was born in Ansonia on September 23, 1929 and was a graduate of Ansonia High School, Class of 1947. In the early 1950s she moved to New York City and served for more than 25 years as a nurse for Dr. Salvatore Vasile of Queens, N.Y. She returned to Connecticut in the 1970s and was employed ay local nursing homes and as a private duty nurse. Mary devoted much of her life to the care of her parents and her late brother Donald. She enjoyed playing card games, reading, and her pet cats and poodles. While living in New York, she frequently attended the opera, symphonies and plays. She loved bringing her nieces and nephews to cultural events in New York City. In addition to Donald and her prents, she was predeceased by brothers, Stephe and Jerome of Ansonia and John and sister-in-law Aldonia of Seymour; her sister Rita of Ansonia as well as her niece Karen Restagno of Oxford. She is survived by a sister-in-law Gloria Fainer of Ansonia and many other nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at the Church of the Assumption Ansonia. Burial will bollow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home Ansonia is entrusted with the arrangements.
