The Life of U. Sherman Avery Jr.

U Sherman Avery, Jr., age 84 of Beacon Fllas, entered into peaceful rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in Derby.  He was the beloved husband of Irene (Gagnon) Avery.  Sherman was born January 7, 1923 in Astoria, N.Y., sone of the late U. Sherman Avery Sr., and Viola (Watrous) Avergy.  He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, 742nd Air Material Squadron.  He was a machine operator for several companies in the valley, retiring from Solomon Tool and Dye.  He was a resident of Beacon Falls for 52 years and a member of the Beacon Falls Congregational Church.  He wa a member of the Disabled Veterans. He enjoyed fishing and was musicallty inclined, playing the bugle, accordion and the organ  Besides his wife, he leaves his loving family, daugher Diane S. Avery and son Russell S. Avery of Shelton; sister, Idella Mann of Seymour, grandson, Shawn R. Avery and great-granddaughter, Kayla M. Avery.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour.  Burial with military honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Family and friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Memorail gifts may be sent to West Haven Veterans Hospital, 950 Campbell Avenue, West Haven, CT 06516.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care and support of Birmingham Health Center of Derby.  To express condolences online, go to www.hullfh.com
