The Life of M. Janet Gray

M. Janet Gray, age 96, of Broomall, PA, formerly of Rosemont, PA, passed away on October 30, 2019.

Janet was a native Philadelphian who graduated from Haverford High School and went on to receive her academic education and training at the University of Pennsylvania.  She served her country honorably during World War II, in the U.S. Navy where she served in the Navy Hospital Corps, after attending the Hospital Corps School.  Janet later returned as a civilian employee with the U.S. Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, an agency of the U.S. Navy, at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. Her career in clinical research included positions of Supervisor of the Pathology Tissue Department as well as an instructor on Histopatholigical Techniques for Enlisted Personnel at the Laboratory School.  She held these positions for a span of 16 years.  Her last post was as Head of the Electron and Light Microscopy Sections in the Research Unit of the Clinical Investigation Service. 

In her retirement years, Janet lived at Rosemont Presbyterian Village and was active in the resident government there as well as landscaping, postage stamp collecting and library programs.  She enjoyed travelling with her high school and college friends and especially liked visiting extended family in Bermuda. In her last decade, with the help of GoldenCare companions, she was able to remain at Rosemont, her home for 24 years.

Janet was the loving mother of Pamela Mahany (Richard) ; the cherished grandmother of 2 and the dear great-grandmother of 3.
