The Life of Sara B. Curley

Sara Frantz Curley passed away peacefully on October 17, 2019. Sally was known and loved for her sense of humor and competitive spirit. For fifteen years in a row, Sally won her club championship at St. David’s Golf Club. When she wasn’t practicing her short game, Sally volunteered at Villanova’s Theatre as stage crew. She even baked cookies for the cast and was recently honored with the Sally Curley Service Award given to students who exhibit generosity and a positive attitude. She was also a volunteer at Bryn Mawr Terrace where she entertained residents with original art projects.

For many years, Sally was the celebrated story-teller at Ludington Library, Bala Cynwyd Library and the drama teacher at Friends Central Day Camp. For thirty years, Sally taught the ‘Bears” and “Frogs” at St. Christopher’s Day School in Gladwyne. Her grandchildren loved having Mumsie as their teacher. She taught them poems, songs, and read them stories they will never forget.

Sally also enjoyed a life of independence and took every opportunity to resist the norm. In high school she led the choir to their first beer party. At age 65, in blizzard conditions, she could be seen skiing down Lancaster Avenue. When she was diagnosed with Parkinson's, she refused to give up. She worked out at Nautilus, played Jenga with family, and continued to draw and paint.

Her children credit Sally for their love of Broadway show tunes, jokes at any cost, and animals. Sally cared for many pets throughout her life: “George Clooney” the finch, B.B.I and B.B. II an assortment of parakeets, Mr. Higgins the bunny, Nickles the guinea pig, Lucy her cockatiel, and all her dogs: Minnie, Sniffy, Mandy, Moose and Gus. As a young girl she rode In the Devon Horse Show and won trophies participating in fox hunts.

Sally was the loving mother to Lori Curley Unterkoefler (Alex Unterkoefler), John Michael Curley (Lacey Curley) and Chuck Curley (Robbie Curley); devoted grandmother to Lizzie Curley, Sara Curley, Julia Curley, Emma Unterkoefler, Willy Unterkoefler, Charlie Curley and Ry Curley; cherished sister of Janet Egan (John Egan); Bill Frantz, Randy Frantz, and Stuart Frantz; loving aunt to Julia Egan, Sally Egan, Suzy Egan, John Egan, Bill Frantz and Michael Frantz.‎
