The Life of Marjorie M. Kirby

Marjorie J.  (nee Milne) Kirby, recently of Ft. Worth, TX died on Oct. 12, 2019 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Kirby. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Ridley Park, PA, Marjorie was a long-time resident of Media, PA with her first husband, Mark O. Camp, MD.

A musical prodigy, she was a soprano with the unusual ability to sing in both the classical and the jazz/popular styles at the highest level. After singing professionally as a teenager, including a performance with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, she studied at Penn, leaving to attend Juilliard School of Music under a full scholarship.

Marjorie gave up a full-time career in jazz and classical performance to raise a family, but continued to sing professionally, including a position at 10th Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia for the renowned organist and composer, Robert Elmore. She organized the popular musical programs at Rose Tree Park for Delaware County.

"Gigi" was a devout Christian, a devoted wife, and a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was an athlete from her years at Ridley Park High School, where she played field hockey. Until late in her eighties she was still playing tennis and golf weekly (even winning a trophy at Springhaven Golf Club!).  She is survived by her five children, Claudia Camp (David Gunn), Mark Camp (Kate), Don Camp (Noel), Nancy Camp and Steven Camp (Catherine), ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Marjorie's Remembrance

Richard F. & Mary Jane Kirchner, 501 Plush Mill Road, Apt. 513, Wallingford, PA 19086

The Kirchner families extend their condolences to the Camp & Kirby families for the passing of Marjorie J. Kirby.  Be at peace with the fond memories of Marjorie.  She was a lady of talents, a wonderful mother to her family & she shared her religious beliefs as well as her virtues with everyone.  We first met "Gigi" at our home in Scotch Plains, NJ.  It was prior to the marriage of our daughter Catherine to Steven Camp on April 19, 1997. Our relationship was fun not only for the marriage but we shared being "snow birds" with Marjorie & Harry Kirby in Florida.  We played golf together in New Smyrna Beach & the Villages in addition to sharing our interests in conversations or when dining together.  A group picture from Christmas of 2004 shows 20 people from the Camp families, Eve Ashcroft & Harry Kirby at Catherine & Steven's home in Swarthmore, PA.  Our most enjoyable celebration was Marjorie's 80th birthday at the Camp's home in Swarthmore on December 28th, 2006 for family & her many friends.  We will miss "Gigi" for the joy & happiness she brought to our lives.  Our love to all.  Richard F. & Mary Jane Kirchner
