Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War era on the USS Yancey, posted in the Mediterranean Sea.

He is survived by a sister, Paula (DiMattia) Shepley of Indianapolis, as well as a nephew, two nieces, four grandnieces, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Fred DiMattia, and his brother, Alan DiMattia, who lived in Tucson.

Dave loved music and kept an extensive library of jazz and R&B LPs. In his younger years, he enjoyed attending college football games and NASCAR races. He was an excellent Italian cook. Dave was a long-standing member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 640, and enjoyed good times at Naugatuck’s Polish American Club.

Dave will be laid to rest at a private ceremony in Fairfield. Family and friends are asked to raise a glass to celebrate Dave’s life. To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die.
