The Life of Jeffrey Wayne Dobbins

Jeffrey “Jeff” Wayne Dobbins, 53 of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019. Those close to him called him Jeff, husband, dad, son, brother, uncle or friend.

Jeff was born on September 28, 1965 in Los Angeles, California. Throughout his childhood, he and his sister, Shannon, explored and lived in many different cities in California, Arkansas and Kansas. Jeff talked mostly about his time in Mena, Arkansas. They were raised by his mother, Barbara Brooks, his grandparents, Forrest and Delores Martin, and his step-father, James Brooks.

After graduating from high school in 1983 in Tonganoxie, Kansas, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed mainly at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. He received his Associate’s Degree from Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah in 1992.

Through his love of computers and gaming, he made a career in information technology. He worked in the educational and banking industries, most recently working at Community America Credit Union in application support.

While employed for the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District as a hardware technician, he met his wife, Amy Killmon. Jeff proposed to Amy at DisneyWorld in June of 2003 which made planning future Disney vacations for his family one of his favorite hobbies. Jeff and Amy were married in Olathe, Kansas on November 29, 2003. Eager to start a family, they welcomed two daughters into the world: Alyssa Jean, born on September 29, 2005 and Olivia Brook, born on February 23, 2007.

Jeff liked computer gaming, nerf war fights, burritos and queso, sailing, DisneyWorld, planning date nights at the theatre, shopping for his girls, amusement
parks, Super Bowl and holiday parties, watching movies and vacations.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Amy Dobbins; his daughters, Alyssa Dobbins and Olivia Dobbins; his mother, Barbara Brooks; his stepfather, James Brooks; his
grandmother, Delores Martin; his sister, Shannon Darby, his nephew, Cole Darby and his parents-in-law, Norman and Bonnie Killmon.

The memorial service will be held at Olathe Christian Church on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:00am. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe, Kansas on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Olathe Memorial Cemetery Reflection Garden in Olathe, Kansas.

Memorial donations can be made in Jeff’s name to Olathe Christian Church or Pathway to Hope, a community program helping families seeking to improve their mental health. Personal donations will be used for Alyssa and Olivia’s college funds. If you are interested in loving and supporting Jeff’s family, especially his daughters, they would love to have visits, photos, memories shared or encouraging notes sent.
