The Life of Jane Cavan Dolan

Jane Cavan Dolan, 91, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of John Edward Dolan, died Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

She was born December 6, 1927 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and moved to Philadelphia as a teenager where she met John, who she married in 1945 just prior to John’s service in Berlin with the U.S. Army. She was the loving daughter of the late Katharyn C. (nee Cavan) and Joseph J. Litcheck.

During her life, Mrs. Dolan was very active in politics and served for several years on the Highland Park (IL) City Counsel. She ran for mayor of Highland Park, losing by only a small margin of votes. She was also active in a number of presidential and other political campaigns. She was a staunch Republican. She was a communicant of St. Francis Catholic Church, Savannah. She was a life-long fan of the Chicago Bears. Mrs. Dolan and her husband lived in several different states while raising a family and she was dedicated to her church and her children during those years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John (1927-2005); daughter, Edith-Marie Dolan, Esq.; her brother, Drew P. Cavan of Florida and sister, Katharyn M Reid of Philadelphia.

Mrs. Dolan is survived by her daughter, Jane A. Dolan of Savannah; son, John E. Dolan, Jr. of Bartlett, Tennessee; grandchildren, Emily J. Hart of Savannah, Katharyn E. Hart, DVM of Sacramento, California, C. William Hart, Esq. (Irene) of Reno, Nevada; Leah Dolan Edwards (Joel) of Athens, Georgia and Sgt John “Johnny” E. Dolan III, of Fort Riley, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Cavan of Pompano Beach, Florida; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many long-time family friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the John E. Dolan Memorial Scholarship, Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
