The Life of Elsie Theresa Russell

Longtime Alexandria, VA resident Elsie Russell passed away at the age of 93 in the early hours of June 5, 2019. Born in Elmira, NY in 1925, Elsie Russell lived a long and happy life. Her time was divided among being a postal worker, mother of two, and an active member of the St. Rita Catholic Church community. The greatest pleasures in her life were spending time with her family and indulging her grandchildren as they grew up. Being the daughter of an air traffic controller, she lived in many places throughout her life before her family settled in Alexandria, VA in the late 1930s. After marrying in 1948 to husband John who passed in 1981, she had two children and three grandchildren she showered with unwavering love and support. Surviving her is sister Sylvia Morris, daughter Karen Ayscue, son Gary Russell, three grandchildren, Eric Collins, Dave Collins, and Noelle Russell, and two great-grandsons, Blake Collins and Jason Collins.

Her family is understandably upset at this difficult time and is appreciative of the wonderful support they have received. In lieu of flowers, they ask you to consider donating to St. Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA.

There will be no visitation but a memorial service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at St. Rita Catholic Church located at 3815 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA 22305. Interment at Ivy Hill Cemetery to follow.
