The Life of Thomas William Herr

Thomas William Herr, age 80, of West Chester, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Samuel J. and Marretta Herr.

Tom graduated from Conestoga High School in 1956, and continued his education at Delaware Valley College, getting his Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture and Environmental Design.

In 1961, Tom was set up on a blind date by a friend, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. They shared 58 years of marriage, and raised a loving family in Lionville, PA. After raising their family, Tom and Marilyn had their final home built in the village of Marshalton right outside West Chester.

Tom was the owner and operator of the Robert J. Sook company, which manufactured jewelry. Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 1971. In his free time, he loved being in the outdoors, gardening, working with his hands, and visiting his properties in Potter County. Tom was an avid pigeon flyer.  He began flying homing pigeons at the young age of 11 years old.  He belonged to many different pigeon clubs over the years with the most current being the Phoenixville Pigeon Club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, who will miss him very much.

Thomas is survived by his wife Marilyn G. Herr, 5 children; Bob, Andrew, Cathy Taniguchi (Kainoa), Marcia Shane (Pete), and Sam (Karri), 8 grandchildren, Rick Vukovic (Raychel), Dustin Herr (Jess), Julia Moore (Mike), Manoa and Kiana Taniguchi, Zander and Alexandra Shane, Elena Herr, 2 great grandchildren; Makai and Giavanna Moore, and brother David Herr (Sharon).


A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019, 2-2:45pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1443 Telegraph Road, West Chester, PA 19380, followed by the funeral service at 3pm. Interment private.
