The Life of Mr. Roy H. Kohr

Roy H. Kohr, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Pleasant Acres Nursing andRehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Berler C. (Carter) Kohr, to whom he was married for 69 years on February 4, 2006.

A viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel, with Mr. Kohr's pastor, the Rev. Ron Oelrich, officiating. Mr. Kohr was born August 14, 1915, in York.

He was the son of the late Charles E. and Fannie M. (Smith) Kohr. Mr. Kohr owned and operated the Kohr Service Garage in York from 1959 to 1990. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in York; a lifetime member of the Viking Athletic Association, the Rooster Club, and the 13th Ward Political Club; and a past president of both the York County Garagemens Association and the Independent Garage owners of America. He worked at the Roosevelt Garage and was a member of the York County Democratic Party, serving as a committeeman. Prior to retirement, Mr. Kohr worked in the C.C.C.'s. During World War II, he worked at the Naval Ordnance Plant.

Mr. Kohr leaves a son, Roy C. Kohr and wife, Georgia of York; a daughter, Cornette B. Nettles and husband, George of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, George, Jr., Britt, Troy, and Seth Nettles; fourteen greatgrandchildren; two step-granddaughters, Denise Barbre and Jennifer Littlejohn; three brothers; George M. Kohr of Fresno, Calif., Robert P. Kohr of Red Lion, and Paul C. Kohr of Pahokee, Fla.; and two sisters, Mary M. Peer of York and Martha J. Peters of Red Lion. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Kohr and Charles Kohr; and four sisters, Doris Kohr, Edna Kohr, Pauline Gilberthorp, and Gloria Blank.
