The Life of Marvin John Miller

Marvin John Miller, 81, of Kutztown, died suddenly on Saturday morning, December 8, 2018 in his residence. He was the loving partner of 40 years of Barry L. Chappell. Born in his family home in Kutztown, which he was very proud to still live in, Marvin was a son of the late Paul E. and Beulah M. (Long) Miller. He was a 1955 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, and Kutztown State Teacher's College, where he received his degree in Art Education. He never formerly taught art, but he did own an art store in Kutztown for several years. Marvin later was drafted into the United States Army, where he was stationed for two years in Arizona.

Marvin worked for many years in the banking profession. He began his career working as a Teller at Kutztown National Bank. Over the years, Marvin was promoted to Head Teller and worked for their successors; Meridian Bank, First National Bank of Allentown, and Wachovia Bank. He retired as a Savings and Loan Officer, working at the Macungie branch. He also assisted Barry with their former business, Flowers Express, in Slatington for 13 years.

Marvin and Barry enjoyed cruising; so much, that they started Mar-Bar Cruises, a local travel group. Thirty-two cruises later, Marvin still looked forward to their yearly trips and was always excited to cruise on a new ship. He was a member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown, and The Kutztown Area Historical Society. Marvin enjoyed going out to eat and catching up with the many friends he made over the years.

In addition to his partner, Barry, Marvin  survived by a brother, Feryl L., husband of Betty M. (Haas) Miller, Breinigsville, Barry's sons, Michael J. Chappell, his wife, Pamela Anthony, and their son, Colton, Macungie, and Barry L. Chappell, his son, Anthony, Barry's companion, Alexis, and her son, Bechtelsville; sister-in-law, Anna Louise (Rahn) Miller, Topton, three nephews, Brent Miller, Brian Miller, Mark Miller, two nieces, Karen (Miller) O'Donnell and Jacqueline (Miller) Wittman; five great nephews and niece, Andrew, Benjamin, Brandon, Derek, and Samantha; and his many friends. In addition to his parents, Marvin was predeceased by his two brothers, Kenneth D. Miller in 1962 and Francis L. Miller in 2017.

A funeral service to celebrate Marvin's life will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Mary Ann Hamm officiating. Sam will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Marvin's family and friends.  I'll never forget the way he would sing silly little songs to all the kids and his infectious laugh.  R.I.P. dearest Sam.
