The Life of Thomas F. McGovern

Thomas F. McGovern, 95, of Media, PA, died September 18, 2018 at SE Veterans’ Center in Spring City Pa. Born and raised in Philadelphia, He was a graduate of Girard College and the University of PA Wharton School. Tom served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. Following the war, he became an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance Co. before retiring in 1984.Tom then served as President of the SE Pa Insurance Workers Union for 8 years. A voracious reader of non-fiction, especially history and Egyptology, he would spend hours in bookshops. A fan of all Phila sports teams, Tom also performed with local theater groups in musicals and other productions. Never shy, he enjoyed breaking into song, telling a great story or just entertaining company with his quick wit and natural comedic talent. He loved our family cats. The role he enjoyed most was as loving husband, dad and granddad. Tom was the father of the late Carolyn Gerrity. Survivors: his wife of 42 years, Jane L. (nee Keser); children, Patricia Braunsberg, David Kelly, Madeleine Kelly and Hollyann Morton; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Tom's life is planned for Sunday October 28th at their home. Burial was at Washington Crossing Veteran's Cemetery. Toppitzer Funeral Home, Drexel Hill.
