The Life of Jean E Huntzinger

Jean E. Huntzinger, 80, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Wednesday at home.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, Oct. 28, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Calvin J. and Ethel Bittler Long. She was the widow of Eugene "Tobey" Huntzinger, who passed away May 4, 2015.

Jean was a 1955 graduate of Auburn High School and received a B.A. in education from West Chester University. She also received a master's equivalency certificate after taking courses at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Wilkes College, Millersville University and Penn State University.

She taught first grade for 38 1/2 years; beginning at Hatfield Joint Consolidated Schools, now known as North Penn School District, then Schuylkill Haven Area School District until retiring in 2000.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven.

Jean was a former member of PSEA, NEA and Schuylkill Haven Area Teachers Association. She was a member of Schuylkill Haven Area Historical Society and Senior Citizens Association. She enjoyed volunteer work for the American Red Cross Blood Bank, Schuylkill Haven Council of Churches Food Pantry and First United Methodist Church food pantry, known as "The Vineyard." She also volunteered her time for Diakon Home Care, taking residents to doctor appointments.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard C. Long.

She is survived by a daughter, Tanya S. Ehrenfried and her husband, Jonathan, Nescopek; a son, Mitchell S. Huntzinger, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlyn McNamara, a brother, Bruce D. Long and his wife, Constance; a sister-in-law, Sandra Long; an aunt, Sara Long Mower; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. At the family's request, donations in Jean Huntzinger's memory may be forwarded to First United Methodist Church with "The Vineyard Food Pantry" on the memo line of the check and mailed to 420 Saylor St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, or Hillside SPCA, PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901. Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc. has been entrusted with arrangements, with cremation services provided by Riverside Cremation Services LLC, both in Schuylkill Haven.
