The Life of David H Gittleman

David H. Gittleman, 83, of Pottsville, died the morning of Aug. 25 at his residence.

Born in Pottsville, Aug. 26, 1934, Dave graduated from Minersville High School, Class of '52, and Lebanon Valley College, earning a B.S. degree in chemistry.

Dave was employed as a chemist by Callery Chemical Co. for a few years but was soon called upon to run the family business, Ben Gittleman Shoe Store, from 1960-80.

In 1985, Dave and wife, Sylvia, co-founded HawkMtn Metals and Labs, now HawkMtn Labs Inc., owned by son, Jeffery.

Dave was a member of Oheb Zedeck Synagogue and Masonic Lodge.

He was an avid reader, loved to cook, enjoyed the arts and a good Manhattan cocktail.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and M. Esther Miller Gittleman; brother, Lou; son, Scott.

Dave is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia Ann Rosenberry; son, Jeffery Lee, companion of De Ann Miller, Sugarloaf; daughter, Allison McNearney, Florida; grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Benjamin Scott; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A visitation with the family will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Route 61, Schuylkill Haven.
