The Life of Shirley Sulser Abel

Shirley (Sulser) Abel Shirley (Sulser) Abel passed away Nov. 15, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 78.

Born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, she was very close to her sister Imogene, who raised her. Shirley was a high level supervisor for Kewanee Oil in Oklahoma and later moved to Philadelphia, where she met and married her husband of over thirty years, George H. Abel. Always active, Shirley was a former Auxiliary President of the Lakeville Fire Department, an avid gardener, and enjoyed home canning.

She loved antiquing, travelling, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing with her dog Snoopy. She lived in Lakeville, Pa. until moving to Jacksonville, Fla. four years ago. She loved Pennsylvania especially Lake Wallenpaupack and Briar Hill Summit.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two step-daughters, Nancy Abel Lloyd and Anne Abel Shumaker. The service will be private and in lieu of flowers, a donation to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431 or to Lacawac Sanctuary, 94 Sanctuary Rd, Lake Ariel, PA 18436 would make Shirley happy.
