The Life of Edith M. Balthaser

Edith M. (George) Balthaser, 89, of Kutztown, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident for two years. She was the loving wife of Luther W. Balthaser, whom she married on July 22, 1950. Born in Lenhartsville, Edith was a daughter of the late Mahlon A. and Hilda M. (Herber) George. She was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, and a 1947 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Edith was employed as the Office Manager and Bookkeeper for the former Fleetwood Shirt Factory, now Paul Frederick, Fleetwood, for 53 years, retiring in 2000. Edith enjoyed traveling and working around her home.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Luther, Edith is survived by her son, Brian E. Balthaser, companion of Martha Blackwood, Topton, son-in-law, Robert W. Schanzer, Glen Allen, Virginia, widower of predeceased daughter, Gail R. (Balthaser) Schanzer, who died February 16, 2014; three grandchildren, Bradley and Kyle Balthaser, and Dylan Schanzer.

A funeral service to celebrate Edith will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 47 S. Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Dr. Jennifer M. Bannerman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
