The Life of Kjell H. Christiansen M.D.

Kjell H. Christiansen M.D. of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2018. He was the loving husband of Florence H Christiansen for 68 years. He was born December 6th,1927 in Oslo, Norway. He is predeceased by his parents Rolf and Magda Christiansen and his brother Rolf.

He attended Alden Elementary, Upper Darby HS, Dickinson College, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and Jefferson Medical College. He was a U.S. Naval physician veteran.

He was a board certified thoracic surgeon and a member of the American College of Physicians. He practiced medicine at Bryn Mawr Hospital and was a member of the Bryn Mawr Surgical group.

Kjell loved his family more than anything else and he so treasured his times spent together with them. He also loved to travel. He, Florence, and his family traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Gardening was another one of his passions; as he was the president of the Chrysanthemum and Daylily Society of Delaware County. He loved fishing in the Florida Keys and especially, in Ocean City, NJ, where he met Florence and many of his life-long friends. In addition, he loved woodworking, long walks on the Ocean City boardwalk, antique cars and of course, ice cream! In his later years, he appreciated all the support from his many caregivers.

In addition to his wife, Florence, Kjell is survived by his five children, Stephen B Christiansen and wife Nina of Elverson, PA, Janet L Kenny and husband Thomas of West Chester, PA, Lois C Roderick and husband Skip of Lititz, PA, Sharon L Margetich and husband Bruce of Malvern, PA, and Susan H Thompson and husband Walter of Glen Mills, PA. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, Joanna Christiansen, and many Norwegian relatives.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Saturday, June 30th at 11 AM at Coventry Presbyterian Church, 400 Lancaster Ave., Malvern, PA 19355.
