The Life of Roger Alan Mahan

Roger Mahan, age 61, of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018. From his childhood in San Francisco, California, Roger followed his love of conservative politics through his alma mater, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, to Washington, D.C. Roger quickly became a renowned expert in federal budget matters, serving as an advisor on entitlement programs for 35 years at the House Budget Committee, the Senate Budget Committee, and as a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush. Most recently Roger served as a Senior Policy Advisor to two House Majority Leaders: Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Roger’s love of politics was equaled only by his love of watching classic films, listening to big band music and enjoying a meal out with his many friends while sporting a bow tie from his limitless collection. Roger is survived by his mother, Jeanne Mahan. His sharp wit, quiet faith in Christ, and political acumen will be dearly missed by the entire Capitol Hill community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15 from 5 – 9 pm at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria. Funeral service to follow on Saturday, June 16 at 3 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on K Street in Washington D.C.
