The Life of ELIZABETH CATHERINE BROWN

Elizabeth Catherine (Betty) Brown, 99, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Urbandale Healthcare Center. 

She was born August 25, 1918 in Derby, IA to Clarence and Lena (Jones) Webb. Betty was a graduate of Derby High School and attended many of the Derby Day's High School Reunions. On May 7, 1938 she married Howard E. Brown and together they raised two sons .After retirement, they enjoyed traveling, camping many summers in Minnesota, and spending several winters in Mesa, Arizona. 

Betty was an avid reader and sports fan. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren compete in sports. She also enjoyed making her "famous” chicken and noodle dinner for her family and friends. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Grimes, she loved being a part of the church family with her friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, of 64 years; son, Earl Brown; grandson, Jeff Brown; her parents; stepmother, May Webb; seven brothers: Orville, Chester, Ferman, Raymond, Floyd and Lloyd (twins), and Emery; and one sister, Louise Johnson. 

She is survived by son, Ed (Diane) Brown, CA; granddaughter, Cindy King, FL; grandson, Scott (Christy) Brown of Indianola, IA; grandson, Mike Brown of CA; grandson Tim (Beth) Brown, CA; granddaughter, Kate Brown, CA; three great­ grandchildren: Teagan and Devin Brown of Indianola, IA and Alexa King, FL; one great great-grandchild, Lucas King, FL. Betty also leaves a host of special nieces and nephews and many friends.

A Celebration of Life for Betty will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 410 S.E. 3rd Street, Grimes on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. A private internment for the family will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
