The Life of LORNA PEARL WEST

Lorna P. West passed away April 28, 2018, at her home in Des Moines. She was born August 1, 1937, the daughter of F. Emogene Burkhart Peters and Bernhardt Peter Peters.

Lorna married the love of her life Russell Kenneth West on November 5, 1961. She worked as a secretary for Younkers in downtown Des Moines for several years prior to working as a secretary for the Soil and Water Conservation Society (Iowa Chapter) for over 30 years.

Lorna loved music, flea markets, and garage sales. She was an avid collector of hot air balloon collectibles and enjoyed flower arranging and ceramics. Lorna also loved going to Arizona and Texas as the climate helped her health.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda; brother-in-law, Frank; and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include her husband, Russell; brother, Dennis (Linda) Peters; sister, Bernadette Peters Carpenter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorna’s motto was “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
