The Life of Laverne Sabados

Laverne Sabados, 72, of Red Lion, formerly of Schuylkill Haven and Minersville, passed away Friday at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Born in Minersville, Jan. 5, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Margaret Wallantavage Jamitis. 

She was a 1963 graduate of Nativity BVM High School, and later graduated from Empire Beauty School. While living in Minersville, she operated a salon.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Dallastown. She enjoyed reading and cooking, and was known for her knitting and cross-stitching

Preceding her in death were twin daughters, Lynn Ann and Margaret, at birth; two brothers, Vincent and James.

Laverne is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Sabados; two children, John Sabados (spouse, Tammy), Norwich, Conn., and Dana Sykes (spouse, Jeremy), Mount Wolf; five grandchildren, Gillian, Charlotte and Izzabella Sabados, Brennan and Claire Sykes; a niece, Cathy Nigh; a nephew, James Jamitis.

Relatives and friends may call from 9 until 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury St., Minersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 139 Spruce St., Minersville. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, North Manheim Township.
