The Life of Scherry Anastasia Veron

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice for Scherry Anastasia Hanes Veron, 62, who passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:55PM at Maison Du Monde Nursing Home in Abbeville, LA.
Reverend Paul Bienvenu, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Scherry, a recent resident of Abbeville but a long-time resident of the Northside of Lafayette was the daughter of the late Robert “Bobby” Hanes and the former Ethel “Greenie” DeRouen, and was known as one of the “Hanes” girls.
Scherry was a loving wife, mother, and “Nanna”. She had a unique sense of humor that could lift anyone’s spirits and her laugh was contagious. She spent her life serving others, including many years as a nurse for Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home. Scherry was selfless, and would go to any extent for her husband, children, friends, and patients. She loved sewing, crafts and going to the beach in Gulf Shores.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, the late Randy “Rock” Veron for thirty-eight years. She is survived by her mother, Ethel “Greenie” Hanes; daughters, Kristen Veron Lavergne and husband Brock, Ashley Veron Breaux and husband Heath, Sarah Marie Veron and fiancé Hubert Trahan; son, Seth Patrick Veron and wife Brandy Phillips Veron; nine grandchildren, Jacey and wife Paige Cormier, Hunter, Braxton, Beau, Hayden, Cooper, Haleigh, Grant, and Sawyer; three sisters, Joddy Hanes Womack and husband Jim, Taffy Hanes Veron and husband John “Bubba”, Angie Hanes Boudreaux and husband L.J.; brother, Ty Hanes; brothers-in-law, O’Neil Veron III and wife Joyce and Johnny Denais; sister-in-law, Cheryl “Sue” Veron and her life-long best friend, Ms. Pam Trosclair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy “Rock” Veron; grandparents, Enola Derouen “Maw-Maw D” and P.J. DeRouen “Paw Paw D”; father, Robert “Bobby” Hanes; father-in-law, O’Neil Veron, Jr. and wife Mary “Mirle” Veron; sister-in-law, Patricia Veron Denais and niece, Melissa Veron.
The family extends their gratitude to Mrs. Jeanne Gibson, Mrs. Brandy Soileau Richard, Mrs. Jezerae Davis Claypool, Mrs. Angela Menard and her other caregivers who cared for Mom so lovingly. Special thanks to Mrs. Brenda Monceaux, whose love, compassion, and support has meant so much during her journey.
Special thanks to Mrs. Cindy Breaux who devoted time in developing family memoirs.
The family requests visiting hours to be held at Delhomme Funeral Home - Maurice on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 11:00AM until 9:00PM. A rosary will be recited at 7:00PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 8:00AM until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Seth Veron, Ty Hanes, Heath Breaux, Ski Veron, Kevin Veron, and Kory Womack. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeau Boudreaux, Hunter Blanton, Braxton Lavergne, and Beau Breaux.
