The Life of Eleanor S. D'Amelio

ELEANOR S. ON MARCH 1, 2018 AGE 99 , A RETIRED BUSINESS TEACHER OF RIDDLE VILLAGE, MEDIA FORMERLY OF HAVERTOWN.

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia in 1918 and graduated valedictorian of the Haverford High School class of 1936. She attended the University of Pennsylvania College for Women and proudly graduated in four years with a Masters in Education.

Eleanor's first teaching position was in Avon Grove, followed by 11 years at Marple Newtown High School. For the rest of her long career Eleanor was head of the business department at Upper Darby High School were she supervised teachers and trained student teachers.

She had an excellent rapport with area businesses who relied on her to provide competent office workers. She was known for her high student expectations and was a commanding presence at 5 feet tall, never more than 100 pounds despite her fondness for chocolate.

Long retired, Eleanor still heard from students thanking her and wishing her well. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling, counting her trip to the Rose Parade, her trans-Canada adventure and boating on Lake Geneva as some of her favorites, She is survived by 5 nieces.
