The Life of CHARLES ALBERT GROGAN

Charles Albert “Bud” Grogan was born June 2, 1939 in Clare, MI to Thomas and Ruth Irene Funke Grogan the eldest of four; three who survive him. Thomas (Susie) Grogan of Farwell, Mi; Catherine (Robert) Gulvas of Standish, MI; and Michael R. (LeAnn) Grogan of Clare, Mi.

Bud was active in his churches Temple Hill Baptist Church and Rollins Christian Fellowship. He was also active and supportive of the Christian Businessmen’s Association and Youth for Christ. He was known for his honesty, integrity, kindness, and love. He will be sorely missed by his wife and 17 chosen sons and daughters. Sons: Michael (Karen), Cadillac; Mark, Cadillac; Timothy (Glaiza), Reed City; Matthew, Madison, WI; Noah, Grand Rapids; Alex (Casey), Inkster, MI; Nathan, Reading, MI; Tyler, Jacksonville, FL; Zachary, Toledo, OH. Daughters: Rebecca, Des Moines, IA; Kimberly (Mike) Sherwood, Cadillac; Alicia (Ebiri) Nkugba, Grand Rapids, MI; LaTasha, Toledo, OH; LaShunda Bryant, Dallas, TX; LaWanda, Dallas, TX; Ashleigh, Grand Rapids, MI; and Kathryn, Cleveland, OH. Twenty-five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends. Bud was preceded in death by grandchildren: Kayla and Oleatha; and his great grandchild Jaylen.

He and Alice moved with granddaughter, LeAnya to Des Moines, IA 5 ½ years ago back to where they had met and married in May 1965. There they found great new friends in their church and community. He loved and would thank each one for their support and help to himself and his family during this time of illness; Home health care workers, nursing home staff, doctors, nurses, and a specially beloved physician, Dr. Bradley Meyer.

Bud Grogan, beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and grandfather met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ face to face on Friday, February 2, 2018 - Groundhog Day- no shadow, but the light. His life-partner and love of his life for nearly 53 years, Alice, was with him as he let go of her hand and was lifted into the perfect joy and beauty of his everlasting home. All the confusion, pain, and struggles instantly gone. Bud loved, lived for, and trusted God’s promises of a debt paid when Jesus shed his perfect sinless blood for that debt he (not we) could ever pay. He was “born again” when he accepted the awesome gift in July of 1966. The greatest choice he ever made! When Bud moved to Cadillac in 1966 he was working for Kraft Foods. When Kraft moved away he went to work for the Wexford-Missaukee Vocational Center as the welding and metal fabrication instructor- a job he loved and felt he was directed to by the Lord. He was well respected by his high school and adult students alike as well as by the industrial community he prepared them for. Dad enjoyed bowling, baseball, camping, travel, and hiking in the woods.

A big thank you to his dear family. “His greatest desire and joy is to know that his children (and his friends) walk in truth.” 3 John 4 “Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life.” John 14:6

The following was written by Bud’s grandson Zach Grogan.
“We lost grandpa this morning. He lived a long and fruitful life accomplishing many noble deeds; and I know myself and everyone who knew him couldn’t be more proud of him. He was the embodiment of a true Christian dedicating his life to the service of God and his fellow man and his presence will be sorely missed. Thank you grandpa for being a strong example of what it means to be a good man. Rest well.”
