The Life of REBECCA SUE HOFFMAN

Becky Hoffman, 62, died peacefully after a brief illness on December 21st with family and friends at her side during her favorite time of year.

Becky was born in Des Moines on a rainy day in April 1955 to the late C. Allan “Bud” Hoffman and Sara (Westergaard) Hoffman. Although Becky was an individual with intellectual disabilities, this did not define who she was. Becky loved travelling, music, fashion, and getting vibrant mani-pedis. Despite the fact that she was unable to speak, Becky was extremely articulate with her face and hands. She led an active life: she delivered newspapers, she participated in Special Olympics, and she enjoyed day programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Becky lived in supervised facilities or group homes with Mosaic since she was a young adult.

Becky was one of five children, with two sisters: Barbara (Hoffman) LeTourneau and the late Marilyn (Hoffman) Gilbertson; and two brothers: Thomas Hoffman and James Hoffman. She is survived by her aunt Anne Bidne, three siblings and their spouses, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, as well as many friends and loved ones.

Please join us in a celebration of her life at 3pm on Saturday, January 6th 2018 at Iles-Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322. The Family will receive visitors from 2-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Becky to Mosaic of Central Iowa: https://www.mosaicinfo.org/donate.
