Helen Blanche Seehan, 89 passed away December 22, 2017, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born September 25, 1928, in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, to William and Edna (Kurschner) Hammer.

Helen is survived by her children, Sandy (Steven) Nau, Leann (Ronald) Palmer, and Pat (Mike) Wall; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Louise Smith, Richard Hammer and Gertrude Peterson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Thomas Seehan; parents; grandson, Andy Wall; and siblings, Chuck, Anna, Hubert, and Otto.

Helen worked at the Des Moines Register & Tribune at various times during her life. Though her true passion was volunteer work, spending her time on the PTA, Des Moines Public Library and the Croatian/ Slavic Center.

Helen was a dedicated member of Grandview Lutheran Church, served as secretary on church council, member of Fidelians, Circle, and quilt making. She was an avid cook, baker, gardener, and a lifelong Dodgers fan. Helen also enjoyed time spent fishing and boating with her husband and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Grandview Lutheran Church, 2930 East 13th Street in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Kavanagh House or Grandview Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to send out a very special thank you to their church family, Rose Glen friends, and Kavanagh House for their love and support.
