The Life of HARLAN E PETERSON

Harlan Peterson, 71, passed away December 16, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born in Centerville, IA on October 7, 1946, the son of John and Mary Peterson.

Harlan was united in marriage to Sarah Irvin on July 29, 1967, at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and AmVets Post #2. Harlan was also a coach for Highland Park and South Des Moines Little Leagues.

Harlan was a dedicated family man who cherished his family and their time spent together. He was the best at making others laugh and was a true prankster. Harlan enjoyed coaching, fishing, watching sports, and woodworking.

Harlan is survived by his loving wife, Sarah; children, Tammy (Karrie), John (Kizzie), and Mike (Cortnie); grandchildren, Holly, Caleb, Nicholas, Riley, Kane, and Sloan; siblings, Mary (Randy), Rose (Doug), and Danny (Lisa); as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, and sister, Arlene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
