The Life of LARRY EUGENE PALMER

Larry Eugene Palmer, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Larry was born October 16, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to George and Irene (Cammack) Palmer. He graduated from East High School in 1942. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, during which time he made three invasions – Normandy, Southern France, and Okinawa. He was one of the participants on the first Honor Flight out of Iowa. Larry was a member of Amvets Post 2 and Capitol Hill Christian Church, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marilyn; children, Peg (Virgil) Maxwell, Gary (Ginger) Palmer, Steve (Jean) Palmer, Dallas (Lonnie) Palmer, Laura Palmer (Rick Brugioni), and Scott Palmer; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Palmer; brother, George R. “Dick” Palmer; and granddaughter, Taylor René Palmer.

Family will begin greeting guests at 9:00 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery after the funeral.
