The Life of Dorothy L Kaunas



Dorothy L. Kaunas, 84, of Saint Clair, passed away Tuesday surrounded by her family while at The Lutheran Home at Topton.

Born May 11, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Lapinsky.

Dorothy graduated from Cass Township High School in 1951. She worked for Bob Miller Chevrolet Co. as a secretary from 1951 to 1959. Dorothy later worked for Dr. Marvin C. Diamond, an oral surgeon, as a medical secretary from 1974 to 1994.

She was involved with the PTA at Saint Clair Elementary School, the Girl Scouts and American Legion. Dorothy volunteered with midget football, chaperoning school dances that were held at the Saint Clair Legion for the Children, Junior Women's Club, St. Casimir's Confraternity and helped making candy and pierogies at St. Casimir's Church, where she was a longtime member.

Dorothy was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending holidays, summer vacations, and supporting the endless activities each one of her children and grandchildren participated in.

Dorothy was very generous with her time in helping others and extending thoughtful gestures to friends in need.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Lapinsky.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Duke and their children, Janet Hutchinson, wife of Dr. Thomas Hutchinson, Emmaus, Bobby Kaunas, husband to Carol Steranko, Schnecksville, and David Kaunas, husband to Stephanie Slotcavage, Orwigsburg. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jason, Marcus, Alexa, Kurt, Kiera, Brent, Ty and Keegan, and a niece, Nancy.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Clair of Assisi, 250 E. Hancock St., Saint Clair. Monsignor William F. Glosser will officiate. A viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will follow on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, off Route 61, Schuylkill Haven. Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven, is entrusted with the services. Donations in Dorothy's name can be made to the St. Clair of Assisi Memorial Fund, 250 E. Hancock St., Saint Clair, PA 17970.
