The Life of Charles A. Savidge

Charles A. "Charlie" Savidge, 84, of Mertztown, died on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in his residence. He was the loving husband of Arlene H. (Rohrbach) Savidge. They were married on December 17, 1955.  Born in the community of Chelsea, Delaware Co., PA, Charles was a son of the late Daniel C. and Pauline I. (Swartzentruber) Savidge. He was a 1951 graduate of Alexis I. duPont High School, Wilmington, DE, and honorably and faithfully served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Savidge was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mertztown, where he served as a Deacon for 34 years. A self-employed and proud farmer, Charlie owned and operated Savidge Farms, Mertztown, from 1957 until his retirement. Mr. Savidge was a committee member for the Agricultural Services Community for 25 years and served as a Supervisor for Longswamp Township for several years. Charlie also served on the Topton Community Ambulance for 10 years, was a member of the Longswamp Lions Club, the Brandywine Heights Area School District school board, and the Pioneer Grange #1777, Topton.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Arlene, Charles is survived by his children, Donald C., husband of Eileen L. (George) Savidge, Alburtis; Lee D., husband of Lori A. (Fegely) Savidge, Kempton; Richard B., husband of Loretta L. (Leiby) Savidge, Alburtis; daughter, Janice S. (Savidge), wife of Glenn L. Miller, Alburtis; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Millie (Savidge) Meyers and Joan (Savidge) Eastman; two brothers, Robert Savidge and Ronald Savidge. He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Dorothy (Savidge) Edler.

A memorial service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the church.
