The Life of Ruthann McDemus


Ruthann McDemus, 73, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Wednesday at ManorCare, Pottsville. 

Born in Coaldale, March 13, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Boley and Elizabeth Hughes Figel.

She was the wife of Donald S. McDemus.

Ruthann was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 1962, and was formerly employed by Alpha Mills, Schuylkill Haven.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven. 

Ruthann was the first female fire police to receive Fire Police of the Year award in Schuylkill County. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Irvin Hill Sr.; sisters, Virginia Marmas and Florence Dush; brother, Frank B. Figel.

In addition to her husband, Ruthann is survived by two children, a son, Joseph Hill Jr. and wife, Jodi, Schuylkill Haven, and Mary Faust and husband, Wayne, Schuylkill Haven; stepchildren, Maria Dalton and husband, John, Pottsville, Donna Spotts and husband, Joe, New Philadelphia, and Laverne Schaeffer, Schuylkill Haven. She is also survived by a sister, Blanche Morgan, Philadelphia, 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A public graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Joseph McDemus officiating.
