The Life of JOSEPH LOUIS FATINO

Joe (Joseph) Louis Fatino, 75, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2017. Joe was born April 4, 1942 to the late Louis J. and Hilda (Bauer) Fatino in Des Moines, Iowa.

Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years: Carol Ann (Lloyd). He always said that he was lucky to have married the girl next door. Joe is survived by his two sons, John (Karen) and Jim, and six grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Tony, Vincent, Louis, and Veronica. Joe also has three siblings: Jack (Addie), Janet Goode (Larry), and Jóan.

Joe graduated from Dowling High School in 1960. He retired from the City of Des Moines Public Works Department after 36 years of service. Joe earned his “Smokin’ Joe” nickname based upon his skill with an endloader.

Joe was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a proud 50 year member of Local 234 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, a Fellow in the Loyal Order of the Moose, and a season ticket holder (section 7) of the Des Moines Buccaneers.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Boulevard, Des Moines, Iowa on October 27, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Following a luncheon, burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on October 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7:00 P.M.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Des Moines Catholic Worker House, or Amanda the Panda.
