The Life of Ronald Kent Zilar

Graveside services will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park - Peace Chapel Mausoleum on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 1:00PM for Mr. Ronald "Ron" Kent Zilar, 85, who passed away on September 17, 2017 at a Lafayette hospital.

Mr. Zilar, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late A. B. "Cotton" Zilar and the former Opal Smith. Mr. Ronald attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Reserves. He earned his Petroleum Engineering Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly U.S.L. Ron enjoyed sailing, cooking, fishing at his camp, and spending time with friends, pets, and family.

He is survived by daughters, Charlese Charlton Zilar Novotny and husband Steven Hal, Mary-Smith Zilar Scarbrough and husband David Franklin; son, Ronald Kent Zilar Jr; grandchildren, Rodney Franklin Scarbrough II, Jared Justin Novotny and wife Katherine Jane Sposato, and Chelsea Charlton Novotny Kessler and husband Daniel; great granddaughter, Abigail Charlton Kessler, one great grandson arriving soon and sister, Janice Zilar Dennen.

Special thanks to long time family friends Kerry and Susan DesHotels. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Lourdes Hospital and AMG Specialty Hospital for their many kindnesses and to Jamie Lindsey and Patti Himel.
